“All is not gold that glitters, all are not diamonds that shine.”

Gold in its natural state is malleable and soft; and diamonds do not shine. Each of these earthly minerals must needs go through a manmade process in order to arrive at the state of strength and shine we so desire and admire.

As a metaphor for the human spirit- they represent indestructible strength, lasting value and beauty; our unity, our love, our faith, hope and trust. We strive in the human process of life, to bring our spirit to this pinnacle of glitter and shine- strength, durability, lasting value and beauty; the fires of this human process burn throughout our lives. They may at times be banked, neglected or smothered, but the coals always hold within them, the spark of re-ignition.

I cannot truthfully say that nothing surprises me anymore; but truthfully say I can, that little surprises me anymore. Knowing the nature of Man, which will always out; the statement- “ Nothing will be withheld from them which they propose to do,” has been shown to be a world-wide prophecy come true- in the end, what they will be, is their basic human selves.

As we hoard gold and diamonds, it is these basic things, within the realm of ourselves that we strive to obtain and desperately try to keep in safety; the love, the faith, the hope and trust that we share with those around us in our lives. It is the plundering of this diligent treasure that surprisingly breaks our spiritual hearts.

We spin this delicate web in “hope” that it will be strong- in “faith” that the agreement will hold- and “trust” that others will uphold it- for it must be sustained by thee and me.

The sharp-edged sword of betrayal, knows no favorite sons, as it slashes from left-to-right; without the staying hand of trust- it destroys everything in sight.

As the spider in Nature will, we rebuild this fragile web that supports our spiritual life; perhaps in a different corner- ever seeking safety from the destructive elements of life, which may, in their natural forces, destroy the hard-won house of our being.

Love, faith hope and trust are the children of our soul- we will seek to shelter and protect them, as we do our physical children. In this manner are our physical and spiritual lives a metaphor for each other.  “As it is above, so it is below.” As these diverse manifestations are bound up on earth together- each one, in every way, affects the other.

“Good Housekeeping,” are two of my favorite words, as they may be used so aptly in the physical and spiritual realms. The spinning of this spiritual web continues throughout our lives; not to spin it means our fall. The strength thereof, and our subsequent ability to abide, is determined by the degree of housekeeping and maintenance we provide.

To maintain our physical homes, we must needs have the exchange of what we call “gold,”

The gold of our spiritual lives is comprised of love, hope, faith and trust- for which we must spiritually work- otherwise it is not earned, and therefore not truly ours.

Daily we live with the fearful knowledge that our dearly beloved physical possessions can be lost or destroyed; but never is all lost- if our spiritual bank account is full, we are able to refill our physical losses; bereft of these funds of the spirit, all may truly be lost.

Life is our personal buffet- we take what we need, and leave the rest; we may have many chances at this buffet…… or not. Each chance must be perceived as our last, and must be carefully considered. It is our human duty to help each other, if we can, to get to this buffet, by whatever means we possess.

In this world, Bravehearts are every bit as necessary as Mahatma Gandhis.

I leave you with these words- Never be afraid to be YOU. Every creature on earth has a natural right to be the extent of what they are. This Article has been viewed 579 times. (Not updated in real-time.)Top-level comments on this article: (2 total)
