TORRANCE, California — The 2014 Acura MDX and RDX received the top five-star scores in crash testing by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Both Acuras received five-star scores for each of the frontal and side impact crash tests and scored four stars for rollover resistance.
The MDX and RDX have not yet been rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
The redesigned 2014 MDX offers optional lane departure warning, forward collision warning, collision mitigation braking and blind spot information.
The 2014 Buick Enclave, one of the MDX's chief domestic rivals, earned an identical safety rating from NHTSA. Two other MDX competitors, the 2014 BMW X5 and the 2014 Volvo XC90 have not been rated by NHTSA.
The 2014 Cadillac SRX, one of the RDX's chief competitors, earned a five-star overall rating from NHTSA. The SRX received four stars in the frontal crash test, five stars in the side impact crash test and four stars in the rollover crash test.
Two other RDX competitors, the 2014 Audi Q5 and the 2014 BMW X3 have not been rated by NHTSA.
